• Understanding and Building Overall Cognitive Capability Through Attention Control

What’s the goal?: This study focuses on understanding how different mental processes, such as attention, memory, and reasoning, interact and relate to one another. By combining behavioral testing, pupil tracking, and EEG data, we aim to uncover the brain mechanisms behind cognitive abilities and attention. Your participation will help researchers gain valuable insights into how the brain functions during these tasks.

What would I be asked to do?: This study consists of three sessions, each lasting about 2.5 hours:
    • Session 1 & 2: During these two sessions, you will complete a series of cognitive tasks on a computer while we monitor your physiological responses, such as eye gaze and pupil size.
    • Session 3: In the third session, you will complete additional cognitive tasks while we record your brain activity using an EEG (electroencephalogram). The EEG is a safe and painless procedure that uses electrodes applied to your scalp to measure your brain’s electrical signals. You’ll even have the opportunity to receive a picture of your head reconstruction from the EEG session.

Why volunteer for this study?: While there are no direct personal benefits, your participation will contribute to advancing research on mental processes. You will receive financial compensation for your time: $35 for the first session, $40 for the second, and $50 for the third. Georgia Tech students may also opt to receive 1.0 SONA credit per hour (up to 7.5 credits), or a combination of SONA credits and monetary payment.

Who can participate?: Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35. Participants must be native English speakers who learned English before the age of 5, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and are not color blind, and have no history of hearing impairment, seizures, or brain injury.
